There’s an overgrown border at the back of my new home in Melbourne heaving with a riot of colours and choking with plants threatening to swallow up the whole house. It’s like my own little secret garden. The last weekend or two have been spent pottering around pulling up dead plants frazzled by an overbearing summer, a welcome break from studying and the added pressures of being on placement. Luckily this has meant space to plant some seedlings of kale, red sorrel and rainbow chard to enjoy over the winter months ahead, and some seeds of purple podded peas and edible flowers calendula and cornflower have followed. I recently discovered a chilli plant with bright yellow pods of spicy hot fruit resolutely creeping up alongside a dominating bush of lavender (thank you previous occupants!), and this asian inspired soba noodle salad with a kick of homegrown heat was the result.
Let me know what you think!
